Petals, Pens & Paint: A Botanical Illustration Workshop

🌿🎨

Discover the joy of capturing nature’s beauty through expressive ink-and-watercolor botanicals! In this botanical illustration workshop, we’ll sketch among the spring leaves and flowers and turn them into joyful sketchbook studies using ink and watercolor. We’ll explore simple shapes, loose lines, and splashy color while practicing a gentle kind of mindfulness in nature—no perfection required.

This workshop is located at an art studio with a view of the scenic Columbia River, only 30 minutes from downtown Portland. Expect a relaxed, curious atmosphere, plenty of room to experiment, and a lovely handmade keepsake to take home. All levels welcome.

What you will learn

In this hands-on workshop, we will:

1.      Mindfully wander and observe the plants, trees, and flowers on the property, letting what catches your eye guide your composition;

2.     Sketch with pencil, then use ink to turn your loose sketches into lively lines;

3.     Play with watercolor as you layer washes and mix colors to add depth, glow, and a little magic; and

4.    Make it yours by adding a plant name, date, or a sweet handwritten note to finish your piece.
