Each custom home portrait begins with a digital line drawing, printed on archival watercolor paper, then painted by hand with professional-grade watercolor. I personalize your portrait with little details only you and your loved ones will understand: a frog, a cinnamon roll, a single rose (real client requests). Optional calligraphy banners can include a family name, street address, house nickname, or meaningful phrase.
How I Create Your Home Portrait
Every custom home portrait begins with your photo. Most portraits are created from one clear, street-level image of the home, but if the home has changed over time—or if you want to include details from different views—I can sometimes create a composition from multiple reference photos.
From there, I create a detailed digital line drawing, using your photo as my guide. This drawing becomes the foundation for the finished painting. I print the linework on acid-free, 100% cotton watercolor paper using waterproof ink, so the final piece has both the crisp detail of illustration and the warmth of hand-painted watercolor.
Next, I paint your home portrait by hand with professional-grade watercolors, adding color, texture, shadows, foliage, and the small details that make the home feel recognizable and loved. In some pieces, I may highlight a special feature—such as glowing windows, a front door, or architectural detail—with gold or iridescent paint.
As a final optional touch, I can add a hand-lettered calligraphy banner with a family name, address, street name, or house nickname. It’s a simple way to turn the portrait into a personal keepsake and lasting memory of home.
